Eligibility

* Be an undergraduate enrolled at the University at Buffalo
* Be a citizen of the United States or have permanent resident status
* Be a first generation college student, and/or have lower income status, and/or a student with documented disability
* Demonstrate need for academic support

 

Some Helpful Definitions:

First generation, according to the U.S. Department of Education, is an individual neither of whose natural or adoptive parents has received a bachelor's degree, or a student that who, prior to the age of 18, regularly resided with and received support from only one natural or adoptive parent and whose supporting parents did not receive a bachelor's degree.

A lower income individual, according to the U.S. Department of Education, is an individual whose taxable income did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount in the calendar year in which the individual initially participates in the program. The poverty level amount is determined using the criteria of poverty established by the Bureau of the Census of the United States Department of Commerce. (Click here to view federal regulations)

An individual with a disability means a person who has registered with UB's Office of Disability Services (ODS) and has documentation from that office.

A student's need for academic support will be determined by the Director of SSS, after talking with the student.
