The Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education (VPUE) and his staff coordinate several standing committees and groups, including:
Associate Deans from the University’s various decanal units come together with the Vice Provost and his staff five times during the academic year to discuss current policies and procedures, consider how students/faculty/staff are impacted and offer recommendations for change. Moreover, the Associate Deans raise curricular and procedural concerns with their colleagues and the Vice Provost to ascertain if remedies exist or to seek recommendations regarding handling of those concerns. Finally, VPUE regularly shares pertinent information on policy or procedural changes and new initiatives with the Associate Deans through the group listserv and at its meetings.
The Town Meeting Group comprises academic advisors, admissions counselors, financial aid administrators, student affairs professionals, and others engaged in the delivery of services to UB’s undergraduate students. VPUE regularly shares with the group information on policies, procedures, initiatives and other significant news. Generally, the group convenes once each semester for informational updates and to share insights and concerns with each other and with the Vice Provost. The VPUE Town Meeting group is open to faculty and staff at UB who wish to join, and those interested in doing so can send an email to vpue@buffalo.edu.
The Undergraduate Catalog contacts in the academic units are responsible for the annual revision of their departmental Undergraduate Catalog.
Faculty serving as Undergraduate Program Directors need to stay abreast of any changes to undergraduate academic policies and procedures as well as any University initiatives that may impact their students and programs. VPUE provides such information to these faculty via the listserv as well as at semesterly meetings. The Vice Provost encourages undergraduate directors’ dialogue with the Office of Undergraduate Education and among each other, for mutual benefit and, ultimately, the improvement of undergraduate education throughout the University.
VPUE also shares information and provides updates, as needed, with Undergraduate Secretaries (via a listserv) to ensure that students are well-served in their programs.
The University Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UUCC) is composed of representatives from the various decanal units serve undergraduate students, as well as VPUE support staff. The UUCC reviews new program proposals, curriculum revisions, course proposals, and policy initiatives for the Vice Provost. Faculty appointed to the UUCC serve for a term of three years and may be reappointed. The UUCC serves to advise the Vice Provost and ensure the quality of UB’s various course and curricular proposals submitted for approval by SUNY and SED.
