Project Description: When Procurement Services determined
that 80 percent
of all paperwork generated by the purchasing process
accounted for only 20 percent of total purchasing dollars spent,
the decision was made to streamline paper flow and eliminate
non-value-added procedures. The resulting
initiative—Fast-Track Group—is a one-stop, one-step
processing center where all procedures needed to make a payment
are handled in a single process. The project has
resulted in a significant reduction in paperwork (some 10,800
fewer typed purchase orders in the first seven months of the
program), a decrease in invoice processing time (payments to
suppliers are processed within forty-eight hours), and improved
customer service.
