Service Excellence Celebration 2000

Project Title:
BISON Electronic Course Reserves

Project Description: The BISON Electronic Course Reserves project converted all of UB’s course reserve materials from paper to electronic, and moved them from the circulation desk to BISON, the Libraries’ computerized public environment. Whereas students once checked out photocopies of assigned journal articles and book chapters on a first-come, first-served basis, they now access the same material from any computer connected to the UB network and read it online or, alternatively, save it to a disk or print it for reading at a more convenient time. This project, whose implementation required only a few common desktop scanners, a basic software package, and some relatively inexpensive disk space, has cut ongoing operational costs and made the Libraries significantly more user friendly.
