The women depicted in this flyer survived the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot. Each remembers the night of May 21, 1921 when the Greenwood District of Tulsa was looted and burned to the ground. Many remember their families running for their lives. Some returned to Tulsa to start their lives anew. Others never returned. These octogenarians, onogenarians and centenarians told their stories to Eddie Faye Gates, an Uncrowned Queen in Oklahoma who continues to write about their lives. Shortly, each of their stories will appear in the biographies of Uncrowned Queens from Oklahoma.
