Uncrowned Queens Honored at Gamma Phi Omega Luncheon

Sunday, March 30th, Dr. Barbara Seals Nevergold and Dr. Peggy Brooks-Bertram were awarded, along with ten other women, the Women of Excellence Award from Gamma Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at the sorority's Founder's Day program.  

The event was highlighted by a keynote address delivered by Leecia Roberta Eve, Esq. Ms. Eve is special counsel to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and the daughter of former Deputy Speaker Arthur O. Eve and Mrs. Constance B. Eve. Ms. Eve spoke of the need for women of excellence, especially during these troubled times, in education, government, health, business, civic and community affairs. She commended the honorees for their contributions to the betterment of life in their community. In addition to the Uncrowned Queens founders, the honorees included Uncrowned Queens, Lillion Batchelor, Constance Eve, Sundra Ryce, Barbara Miller-Williams, Nellie B. King, Sharon Thomas, Hon. Shirley Troutman, Dr. Lillian Williams, Johnnie Mayo and Yvonne Hargrave. 

The sorority honored the Golden Sorors (members for 50 years+) and the founding members of Gamma Phi Omega (founded in 1944) for their long and continuous commitment to the sorority's mission - Service to all mankind. Uncrowned Queen Dawn Sanders is the president of Gamma Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
