| April 28, 2007 | Uncrowned Queens Launches the Uncrowned Kings Initiative and WebsiteOn Saturday, April 28th, the Institute launched its much heralded Uncrowned Kings Initiative and website. Over one hundred individuals, including Uncrowned Kings and their families, attended the program that recognized the first group of men whose histories are recorded on the website. Drs. Barbara Nevergold and Peggy Brooks-Bertram introduced the initiative, recounted the history of the Michigan Avenue YMCA, recognized the Uncrowned Kings and presented the 2007 Culture Keeper Awards to two architects, whose buildings were/are historic sites connected with the growth and development Buffalo's Black community. | March 12, 2007 | Uncrowned Queens Co-Founders to be Inducted into the Western New York Women’s Hall Of FameThe Uncrowned Queens co-founders, Dr. Peggy Brooks-Bertram and Dr. Barbara Seals Nevergold will be inducted into the Western New York Women’s Hall of Fame on March 12, 2007 at the 11th annual induction luncheon. The Western New York Women's Hall of Fame's genesis lies in the work of women who organized the New York State Coalition on Women's Issues, Project FLIGHT, a family literacy program, and the Western New York History Committee. Dr. Geraldine E. Bard and Dr Betty J. Cappella of Buffalo State College lead the cadre of women who are the foundation for the Western New York Women's Hall of Fame. The Hall’s mission is: “To honor those women in perpetuity who have worked in a public spotlight, as well as those who have quietly enriched the community and inspired others.” More... |
