Mrs. Albert Thompson was the first black teacher in Buffalo. She taught in a segregated black school in old Vine Alley before the turn of the century. Vine Alley was eliminated in the Ellicott redevelopment in the area near Emergency Hospital. The school was torn down in the early 1900s.
