
BIOGRAPHY: Lula Herring

Lula Lucritia Gayles Herring is the fourth oldest of seventeen sisters and brothers, children of Edward Cato Gayles II and Lula Lucritia Adams Gayles. Lula is a native Buffalonian. She is an unpublished author, playwright (The Preacher Wo/man), producer, actress and recording artist. Her musical contributions include the Gayles Family Album (see The Gayles Family Singers) and Stand America, a song by Western New York musicians and singers. The proceeds of the latter will benefit the American Red Cross. Lula has also written the song, It's not about me, it's all about Thee. Her other talents and training include: photographer, cosmetologist, certified social studies teacher, school administrator/supervisor, school district administrator, Evangelist, Missionary, Foreign Missionary and Sunday School teacher. Lula has been a Sunday School teacher since she was 15 years old. She acknowledges that she has completed reading the Bible in its entirety four times in this period. She has been recognized as the Social Studies Teacher of the Year.
Lula is the wife of George D. Herring, mother of Bryan, David, Marc, Jennifer and Linda. She is the grandmother of Heather, Tiara, David and Nathan. Her siblings include: Eleanor, Rosa, Edward, Edna, George, Fred, Kenny, Pam, Alice, Marion, Ronald, Diane, Vivian, Gregg, Steven and Stanley. She is the proud aunt of fifty-six nieces and nephews and fifty-two great nieces and nephews.
Ms. Herring is Assistant Principal at Bennett High School in Buffalo. She has had many experiences in her life, but the most rewarding for her is when she can give and show love. "It is my philosophy that we are to achieve two things in this life and that is to love and be loved. Another philosophy is to be mentally, physically, and spiritually fit."
