
BIOGRAPHY: Mary N. Fisher

Mary N. Fisher was the first African American female realtor in Upstate New York. She founded the Mary N. Fisher Realty Company. With her knowledge of real estate issues, she became a consultant to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and was instrumental in helping to implement the federal government's 221 Program. Many prominent African American residents were her clients and she sold George K. Arthur and Thomas Edwards their first homes in Buffalo, New York.
Mrs. Fisher loved her community, demonstrating her commitment by raising funds for the Humboldt YMCA. As chairperson for their annual fundraising campaign she served with distinction from 1962-1967. Also, she held active membership in the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs.
An involved member of the Masonic Family, she held leadership positions denoting the highest level of service within two of these organizations. The first was Worthy Matron of Ionic Chapter # 77, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliate. She was also the Illustrious Commandress of Hadja, Court #62, Daughters of Isis. She was an active member of Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME), the NAACP and the Winsomettes.
She graduated from Hutchinson Central High School and Bryant and Stratton Business Institute. Mrs. Fisher also received specialized training from the National Association of Housing Specialists and The Home Owners Association.
She was married to Charley H. Fisher Jr. and is the mother of the Honorable Charley H. Fisher III.
