Eleanor Williams Dent is a native of Ohio, who moved to Buffalo in the early 1940s. Her parents were Virgle and Caroline Williams. She is the youngest of three children. She attended the Buffalo Public Schools and is a graduate of Fosdick Masten High School.

Mrs. Dent's interest in health care has resulted in a distinguished career. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1962 and earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Niagara Community College in 1969. In 1973, she graduated from Buffalo State College with honors and a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She also received a Master's Degree in Personnel Administration, with honors, from Buffalo State College. Mrs. Dent earned Nurse Practitioner Certification from the University at Buffalo. She returned to UB in 1999 and became a Certified Colon Therapist.

Mrs. Dent has worked in the medical practices of several physicians in the Western New York community. She also worked at the Geneva B. Scruggs Community Health Center and Stutzman Alcoholic Unit. As a Nurse Practitioner, she also owned her own practice at 331 Swan Street for over ten years. She is also a health educator and has taught at the Buffalo Vocational Technical Center (BVTC), and regularly conducts community seminars in nursing and health related topics.

Mrs. Dent has been an active volunteer in the community and has served on the following organizations: National Caucus for the Aging, Citizens United for Fairness in Medicine. Pratt-Willard Senior Program. She often participates in health care programs for participants at the Ken-Bailey Community Center and George K. Arthur Community Center.

She has received numerous awards for community service, including the Black Achiever's Award, Buffalo State Honor Society, International Society of Hypertension in Blacks, Certification of Appreciation from the New York State Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and the Community Service Award from True Bethel Baptist Church. She is a member of the New York State Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and a Life Member of the Buffalo State College Alumni Association.

Mrs. Dent is a member of Bethel AME Church. She is the mother of three adult children, June Woods, who is also a nurse, Clarence, an automobile salesman and Patrick, a resident of Atlanta, who works as a senior insurance adjuster. She is the grandmother of six and great grandmother of four. She enjoys visiting the elderly, traveling and taking care of her patients.
