The Sojourner Truth Club was founded in Buffalo on January 13, 1974.  The group's theme was:  "Dedicated We Serve."  The purpose of the organization was stated as follows:  "Women who cared about girls in distress."  

The first officers were installed in February of 1974 by Mrs. Mary J. Hackney, President of the Empire State Baptist Convention.  Other officers of the club, not pictured, included:  Mrs. E. Harbeeb, Second Vice President; Mrs. V. Pressley, Recording Secretary; Mrs. E. Hudson, Financial Secretary; and Mrs. G. Green, Historian.  Members included:  Mrs. A. Bryant, Mrs. S. Reed, Mrs. S. Shepherd, Mrs. M. Wise, Mrs. Z. Williams, Mrs. F. Lockhart, Mrs. G. Thompson, and Mrs. L. Taylor.
