Mary Burnett Talbert Comes to Greet Tour |
The Afro American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier, in collaboration with Forest Lawn Cemetery, will sponsor its third annual African American Ancestral Tour at the Cemetery. This guided motor coach tour will feature historical information and re-enactments of several interesting and prominent African Americans whose final resting place is at Forest Lawn. Several of the stops on the tour will be at the gravesites of Uncrowned Queens: Mary B. Talbert (look for a special re-enactment of Mrs. Talbert), Amelia Grace Anderson, and Theresa G. Evans. The Rev. Willie B. Seals also will be cited on the tour. Rev. Seals is the father of Uncrowned Queens co-founder, Barbara Seals Nevergold.
For the second year, Barbara Seals Nevergold and Peggy Brooks-Bertram will give a special lecture, preceding the tour. The lecture is entitled, "1901-1905: From Pan American Protest to Niagara Movement". This presentation examines the early history of the protest movement in the African American community. A $5.00 donation is requested for the lecture. Refreshments will be served. A donation of $7 is requested for the tour.
Reservations are required and can be made by calling 885-1606, ext. 302. The lecture will begin at 1:30 pm followed by the tour at 3:00 pm. The lectures and tours are scheduled on August 22 and September 5, 2004.
