Now Available...,Envirographic 100! (Super Recycled Paper)

The success of recycling as a waste reduction strategy depends on "closing the loop," i.e. buying recycled products. This creates the market for the recycled waste materials we all want to recycle. So, if you are not buying products made of recycled materials, you're not really recycling!

UB consumes a lot of copy paper, i.e. more than fourteen trailer truck loads or over 125,000 reams of paper per year! Imagine the environmental costs of that paper - the trees (a small forest), energy, water, air and water pollution. By using recycled paper all those costs can be dramatically reduced.

Our environmental paper of choice is Envirographic-100, a 100% post consumer fiber recycled paper which is "process chlorine free." This white copier and printer paper is made entirely of waste paper and is manufactured without the addition of any chlorine. That means no trees cut and far less pollution. Chlorine used in the paper manufacturing process can produce dioxins in waste water and air emissions.

Envirographic-100 paper is white-white in color and runs beautifully through all copy machines and printers. It produces no more micro-dust than "regular" copier paper. And Envirographic- 100 paper is available to UB offices and departments at competitive pricing from UB's Central Stores. The environmental value of purchasing Envirographic 100 paper far outweighs the approximately $.30 per ream price difference between Envirographic 100 and conventional copy paper.

During 2001 approximately 50% of UB copy/printer paper purchases were Envirographic-100 paper. Most of the rest was recycled paper which had a 30% post consumer recycled content.

UB offices and departments wishing to order Envirographic 100 paper, click here for Central Stores on-line electronic ordering. Also contact the UB Green Office if you would like a copy of our handout on products with recycled content from the Staples catalog which help "close the loop."
