The generation and disposal of hazardous wastes is a serious environmental and health issue on campus as well as in the United States. Nationally, the scope of the problem is huge and all disposal options have their drawbacks. Fortunately, there are environmentally responsible steps all of us can take in laboratories, in fine arts, maintenance and at home for reducing the amount of hazardous waste generated and for disposing of it in the least damaging way. At UB, Occupational and Environmental Safety (OES) Services is responsible for the disposal of hazardous materials and for educating members of the campus community in proper handling and disposal methods.
