The land use plan developed by the Campus Land Use Subcommittee of the Environmental Task Force, UB 2025, is a 30-year plan to transform the current environment of the North Campus (1200 acres) into a more energy efficient, well-managed, "campus-like" environment. This proposal is the result of more than three years of internal discussion in the committee. It was approved in principle by the University in 1995 and 1996.
The goal for the UB 2025 proposal is to transform the North Campus of the State University of New York at Buffalo into a diverse, biologically rich, less energy intensive place to learn, work and live by:
Reducing University energy expenditures over time through the creation of self-maintaining ecosystems and wind protection of buildings and landscapes. |
Creating opportunities for year-round outdoor recreation on campus, environmental education, and nature appreciation. |
Involving the university community in the process of implementing these goals. |
