1. SAVE MORE THAN MONEY AT THE HOME ENERGY WORKSHOP
High utility bills got you down? Concerned about the environmental, social and political costs of wasteful energy use? Curious about solar energy and green power? If so, this free workshop is for you! In two hours learn about how to reduce home energy consumption by more than 50% as well as how to apply solar energy technologies to home heating, hot water and electrical generation. Walter Simpson, UB Energy Officer, is workshop presenter.

See: [http://wings.buffalo.edu/ubgreen] for details!

2. MAKE EVERY DAY EARTH DAY
Though April 22nd is the official Earth Day that doesn't mean you should limit your celebrating! The WNY Earth Day Steering Committee has developed a list of community events that will be taking place throughout spring and into summer. Pick up the April 10th edition of Artvoice and check out the Earth Day insert or visit WNY Earth Day online.

See: WNY EARTH DAY for information and event listings!

3. UB NUMBER ONE PURCHASER OF WIND POWER IN NYS!
Back in October, UB made news by being the first institution to buy wind power in SUNY; now, the university has signed a contract that makes it New York State's biggest purchaser of this very green energy source. This important step away from fossil fuels was in part prompted by Governor Pataki's Executive Order 111.

4. TAKING ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY TO THE STREETS
Professor Joe Gardella, former chair of the UB ETF and now associate dean for external affairs of the College of Arts and Sciences, doesn't think chemistry - or chemists for that matter - should stay inside the lab. He takes his chemistry students out into Western New York neighborhoods to help communities resolve environmental problems, and now he's won a national award for doing it. Read more.

5. LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION? FIND IT AT THE UB GREEN LIBRARY!
After a major overhaul and renovation, UB Green's environmental library is ready to start serving the community once again! The library focuses on green design and renewable energy sources, but also boasts holdings on topics from Activism to Vegetarianism. In order to ensure the latest, most relevant information, the library is constantly adding titles, with visitors able to borrow items for up to two weeks! We also offer internet access to visitors pursuing research on issues relating to energy or environment.

Read all about it.
