The University at Buffalo chapter of Tau Sigma National Honor Society was established in the spring of 2001 with 57 charter members. At present, we have inducted over 1000 members into our chapter.

Tau Sigma was born out of the desire to improve service to and the recruitment and retention of transfer students. The first chapter was established in 1999, and Executive offices are located at Auburn University in Alabama. The mission of Tau Sigma is to recognize and promote the academic excellence of transfer students, and encourage both scholarly and social involvement within their campus and surrounding community.
