The University at Buffalo chapter of Tau Sigma National Honor Society was established in the spring of 2001 with 57 charter members. At present, we have inducted over 600 members into our chapter.
Tau Sigma was born out of the desire to improve service to and the recruitment and retention of transfer students. The first chapter, established in 1999, and Executive offices are located at Auburn University in Alabama. o The mission of Tau Sigma is to recognize and promote the academic excellence of transfer students, and encourage both scholarly and social involvement within their campus and surrounding community.
Welcome to the University at Buffalo chapter website! We encourage you to join us as we website! We encourage you to join us as we serve transfer students at colleges and universities nationwide.
Those eligible for membership are students who transferred to the University at Buffalo and earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 in their first semester (and completed a minimum of 12 credits). Students must have transferred with at least 24 credits earned from a previous accredited institution of higher education. (It is not required for membership that you maintain this GPA).
Students who meet the eligibility requirements are notified by mail shortly after each semester ends. If you wish to join you are asked to submit an application form and lifetime dues of forty-five dollars (one time dues). Once dues are paid you become a member, however, you will also be invited to attend the annual Induction Ceremony at which your membership is formally conferred.
Joining Tau Sigma is an excellent way to develop your leadership skills, enhance your resume, help other students and make friends.
Nationally, the objectives of Tau Sigma are to: address the current lack of recognition of outstanding academic achievement of transfer students; provide motivation for the academic excellence of incoming transfer students; enhance the reputation of all transfer students; provide a common bond among transfer students; promote the involvement of transfer students in the college / university community; and form a group of students who can help the college or university address and meet the needs of incoming transfer students.
