Article I - Name

The name of the organization shall be the NATIVE AMERICAN PEOPLES' ALLIANCE.

Article II - Aims & Goals

  • To assist the University in the recruitment, enrollment, retention, and graduation of Native American students to the University.
  • To serve as a support group for all Native students at the University.
  • To promote NAPA as a worthwhile organization to potential members.
  • To actively work with and support the Native American Studies department and its faculty and staff.
  • To work with other faculty, staff, clubs, and organizations on areas of mutual concern and benefit.
  • To work with community-based organizations for the benefit of Native American Peoples.
  • To educate uninformed members of the University and larger community about the true history, perspectives, current events, and other areas of the Native American experience and its relevance to other peoples.
  • To generate as much programming to accomplish these aims and goals as much as possible.
  • To determine, as needed, additional aims and goals to help guide the organization.

Article III - Membership, Voting, & Committees

  • Membership—NAPA membership will be open to those members of the community who show a true interest in the aims and goals listed in Article II. Membership will be given to all persons who have attended at least one general meeting during the academic year and signed in on the attendance sheets.
  • Voting—voting rights will be given to all members as defined above and who are in attendance at the time of discussions at publicized meetings. The membership will retain all rights of final approval or disapproval of all decisions made by NAPA. Consensus will be the method of enacting a decision. Officers or the membership may suggest plans and policies to be discussed by the general membership.
  • Committees—committees will be formed as a specified purpose or needrequires, and will be abandoned once their objective is accomplished.

Article IV. Officer Functions & Elections

  • Officers—The officers shall consist of only undergraduate students,and consist of the following officers:
    • President
    • Vice-President
    • Treasurer
    • Secretary
    • Publicity Director
  • Functions of the Officers—as much as possible, all officers shall befamiliar with the information required by Article II, G, and be responsible for the accomplishment of our aims and goals listed in Article II with the full support and approval by the membership. In addition, the following functions shall apply:
    • President—To represent NAPA at all appropriatefunctions and activities, chair all meetings (or use a rotating-chair arrangement) unless delegated to another member by President or membership.
    • Vice-President—To assist President, assumePresident’s dutieswhen President is not available.
    • Treasurer—To maintain open records of all moneyreceived and spent by the organization; submit monthly financial reports to the membership; and be responsible for proper procedures of the Student Association for handling all monies.
    • Secretary—To maintain all attendance sheets,minutes, communications, and policies.
    • Publicity Director—To submit all campus mediaforms for publicity and notice of all meetings and functions. Campus media forms include: Generation, Spectrum, off-campus newspapers, meeting copies, copy forms, when applicable.
  • Election of Officers—Officers shall:
    • Be elected by the general membership once a year, no later than the deadline provided by the SA constitution.
    • Take office as provided by the same SA constitution.
    • Be subject to recall if a petition of 2/3 of the membership is submitted to the Elections and Credentials committee. Also in the event of a total of three (3) unexcused absences per semester, nominations will be taken to elect a new officer in the absentee’s position. The nominationswill take place on the event of the third absence. The officer(s) will be given prior warning after two (2) unexcused absences. (Absences will be defined by the membership). Recall elections will then take place.

Article V. Meetings

  • There shall be officer meetings and general meetings held at intervals, determined by the general membership, at least once a month.
