E-Board Duties

President

General
The President is involved in all the activities of the club. He oversees the VP and Treasurer and looks to them for a lot of help. As you will soon find out, the more work you put in, the smoother the team will run and the more fun you'll have.

Summer Orientation
Held 8 times in the Student Union, typically Monday and Tuesday nights from 8-10. Sign up in the SA office before the end of the spring semester and send out an email asking for help from local teammates (2-3 guys). Things you will need: team banner, sign up sheet, brochure, pens, vball, t-shirt.

Tryouts
"Tryouts" are not allowed. Everyone is technically supposed to make the team and be a member. What may have to happen is having two teams: Travel team, and Practice team. Both will be involved in all club activities (ie. SA events, fundraisers, comm. service, tourneys, etc.)
Tryouts are usually held in mid to late September. Once you talk to Joe Muscarella about when your practices are you can set up a date for tryouts. Set up flyers (about 100) all around North Campus and Ellicott. It's also a good idea to set up a table in the Student Union about a week before tryouts exactly like summer orientation. You sign up for a table in SU 150 and on the day/s you pick up your table from the information booth in the SU. Things you'll need for tryouts: sign in sheet, numbers and pins for everyone, alumni to help, all equipment (2 nets usually).

Practices
Held 2-4 times per week. Joe Muscarella is in charge of when you practice and you should email him a practice schedule request. Generally we practice Tues/Wed/Thur 7-8:30 and Sun 7-9:30. Each Monday R&I puts out a schedule for the week and you should check it to make sure you have that practice time and there is nothing else scheduled (ie. vball or bball game). Rookies are in charge of equipment for each practice. If they can't make it they are responsible for passing the equipment to someone who will be there. If someone can't make a practice they should obviously tell someone. The President runs practice and should have a good idea of what the team needs to work on. Come to practice with a couple drills in mind to provide a good flow.

Yellows
Your new favorite color. These are the request forms you fill out everytime you use the budget. The President and Treasurer are the only ones allowed to submit them. There are some examples in the SA binder of what they look like filled out, along with other necessary papers. You turn them into Donna and she is very helpful with any questions you have. The really important part regarding yellows is Documentation. Check in the binder and ask Donna about the proper documentation you need for the yellow to go through as fast as possible. They can take anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks to go through, so the sooner you turn them in the better. Specifics about yellows for matches, tournaments and hotels can be found in the previous sections. Also, at the beginning of each semester you must turn in a schedule to Donna so she can have it on file. Any time you make an addition to our playing schedule you must give Donna a new copy or else you wont be able to pay for referees or tournament entry fees. You also have to check on the Yellows sometimes to make sure they are being processed.

SA Sports Club Council Meetings
Meetings are typically held every month and are manditory. One member of the E-Board should attend. They are run by the Sports Club Coordinator and Joe Muscarella in 340 SU. Each meeting there is an agenda and they usually last about an hour.

E-Board Orientation
Manditory for every member of the E-Board. They are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons in September or October. Very boring and drawn out (6 hours), but pay attention during the Yellows section. Sign up for it in the SA office.

Van Testing
6 guys over 20 years old will have to be van tested by the University Police. You only have to do this once during your time here at UB. Joe sets up the dates for this and you sign up through him hopefully in the fall semester. This testing is for use of SA vans that we take to Nationals and other tourneys if necessary. SA van policy changes often so at least pay attention to this portion during orientation.

CPR/AED/1st Aid
The President and one other team member will have to be certified hopefully in the fall semester. This again is through Joe and you watch videos and perform life saving techniques down at Joe's office.

Club Mailbox

Located in the SA office. President and VP should check this almost daily. If Donna or Terry have any problems with a Yellow they will leave a note in the mailbox.

E-mail
The team email is the following: ubrollingrhinos@yahoo.com
This way you will not have to add yourself to any volleyball email lists. You will receive tournament and conference emails there.
SA has some email lists that your Coordinator should add you to when you submit the E-Board update form at the end of the year after Nationals. Everyone on the E-Board should receive emails from the Coordinator as well as from SA.

Website
Peter Wlosinski ('01-'06) worked very hard to set up our team website. It's upkeep is not that difficult and you can look at previous year's info to guide you for updates. If someone on the team is interested in maintaining the website then by all means let them. Updating the website is done through FTP. You transfer the files to your computer from ubunix.buffalo.edu , update them in Dreamweaver or Frontpage and transfer them back (Frontpage is free from UB, but Dreamweaver is a stronger program by far). The location on ubunix of our files is:
/net/wings/info/www/student-life/sa/mens-volleyball
If you have any questions send an email to Pete.

Treasurer

General
The Treasurer is obviously in charge of all monetary actions of the club. From tournament entry fees to hotels and equipment purchases the Treasurer works hand in hand with the President to manage the budget. He also helps out the President and VP when he can.
