Meeting Minutes

Minutes: 10/17/02

Minutes by Tim Reinhart

LGBTA Meeting Minutes for Thursday, October 17, 2002
Fall 2002 Meeting #8

~Meeting began at 8:01pm in 362 Student Union~

-The Meeting Minutes for meeting 1-7 have been approved.
-If you have not received a club shirt from Cory yet and you signed up to get one, see Cory some time soon.

-Due to recent complications, we took some time out to explain the position of secretary as seen through the eyes of our E-board and our constitution:
The secretary is an E-board position just like any other. A secretary has all the responsibilities and duties of any E-board position, minus only the ability to vote in E-board affairs. As with any other E-board member, when there is no other officer present in the office at any given time, that person is in charge of the welfare of the room, and must be responsible for the actions that occur within it. As such, if you are requested to do something, or to stop doing something by an E-board member, please do so. Alternatively, you may be asked to leave the office.

-Two related issues that have come up recently:
   1) Please do not throw any things around the office. That includes pillows, toys, notebooks; anything. People have been hit by things in the past, and this is not something that will happen in our office.
   2) A reminder: E-board members ONLY should be using, or otherwise accessing the desk in our office. Things that are in drawers need to stay in those drawers. They are not for public access. If you feel you need something from the desk, ask an E-board member.

-On Tuesday, November 12, we will be holding our Out, Loud, and Proud speaker series, which will include Danny from the New Orleans cast of MTV's The Real World and Chris from the Chicago cast of the same. Anysa, also from the Chicago cast may be attending; we're still not sure. All speakers are brought to you courtesy of the LGBTA.
We have Slee Hall reserved on the 12th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm, and we are expecting the series to run from 6pm to 9pm.
Regardless of being a member of the club, all individuals who wish to attend the series will need to buy tickets. Ticket costs are as follows:
Students: $7
All Others: $10
We will, however, reserve the first two rows of the hall for members of the club.
As another perk for members, following the series, Chris and Danny would like to meet with the members in private for a reception of sorts.
To be eligible for these things, you must have attended at least two general meetings (and signed the sign in sheet) before this event.
There is one alternative to buying a ticket to this event:
Cory is looking for about 10 people to volunteer as ushers for the event. If he gets a high response, he may allow as many as 12 people to volunteer. See Cory ASAP if you are interested: positions will fill up quickly.

-We will have a Halloween party on October 31 in place of our usual meeting on that day, a Thursday. More details to come on this.
-We want to have a Thanksgiving Pot Luck Dinner sometime soon before our Thanksgiving break. A Pot Luck Dinner for those who don't know, is essentially a get-together where everyone brings their own dish. More details to come on this as well.
No wine or alcohol should be brought to either of these events.
-As mentioned a few weeks ago, as we draw closer to Halloween, we will be participating in the Student Association's "Haunted Union." The object is to decorate our office better than any other in the Student Union in whatever Halloween trend we choose. Cory would like to know if anyone has any decoration ideas, as he will most likely end up doing it by himself if noone decides to contribute. The prize for best decorated office is an office party, sponsored by SA.
-We will be holding a GRASP on Tuesday, 10/22 for Goodyear Hall (For those who participated last time, it's in the same place at the same time). Last week, Rachel gathered a panel of people to participate in the discussion, but noone ended up showing up. This week, someone different contacted her to have a GRASP for the same thing, but promises that people will attend this time. As such, Rachel is looking for people to participate in the panel. This will be at Goodyear Hall on South Campus at 6:30pm.

~Meeting ended at 8:34pm in 362 Student Union~
