Meeting Minutes

Minutes: 10/7/99

Minutes by Liz Holland, LGBA President

Keep in mind these are from very abbreviated notes from my own agenda, so there's probably some stuff missing.

10.7.99

- Michele is in the final preparations for the Amateur Drag Show. We voted on her budget, and all points were approved. For more information about the specifics, please contact michele. (mmtucker)

- Applications for applied positions are due tommorrow, 10/8 by 5pm at the latest. NO EXCEPTIONS!

- COSG tonight is at 7pm. Please come for a very and exciting discussion that may or may not have something to do with drag queens in some fashion or another.

- Alles Wird Gut, the movie we cosponsored through IREWG is tonight at 7pm. It's about two German lesbians in Hamburg (Germany, not NY!)

- Conference Committee meeting is tommorrow 10/8 at 6pm.

- Buff State recently got their LGBA group back together. They would like us to come to their meetings to help things move along. If anyone at all is interested, please contact me because I would like to help them out to get a stronger LGBT student movement in Buffalo. Their meetings are at 12pm on the Buff State campus. Their president will give us parking passes if we need them.

- ACS (AIDS Community Services) came and discussed several things with us. They would to form focus groups with us to better plan their "Man Sex 101" and "Pearls Pearls Pearls" safe sex discussions which are coming to UB in the Spring semester. THIS IS IMPORTANT! Not only is it great to work with ACS because they're good people, but it can help us out as well - as far as bringing people to our campus (making them aware of us) and personal gain as well, such as piece or mind and education about safer sex.

Their focus group will be on November 11th at 7pm in Student Union 210. MARK THIS ON YOUR CALENDARS! There will be two groups (men and women) running at the same time. It is very important for bisexuals and transgendered people to show up as well.

Man Sex 101 is pretty much a set program, but if new ideas are brought up they may be incorporated. Also, based on what is discussed, the program for Spring will be formed. Pearls Pearls Pearls (the women's section) is under development, so what we discuss will be the program. (I already put my two cents in for "No, Lesbians do NOT hate bisexuals")

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME!

- Young & Out (which is being run by Mary Alice Boyd - who is also running Pearls Pearls Pearls) meets every Wednesday at 3pm. This month they are meeting in the Angelika lobby. Remember when everyone was complaining that we don't have programming for people already fine with their sexuality? Well, this is it! She would like to work with us and get us involved in this program. She will also move times around to help accomodate people. PLEASE go if you can! I know Lisa is interested, so if anyone else is also interested, let her know!

- We had a discussion about bringing the QueerZoo (affectionately termed for Gay Special Interest Housing at UB) somehow under the direction or affilaition with LGBA. The reason: the people who need to be living there aren't getting the information they need about it to have the choice of living there.
Some things brought up:
- why are str8 people there when there are gay people waiting to be there
- establishing more queer housing, maybe in hadley and on south
- how to approach residence life
This will be again discussed at the next meeting. KEITH if you are reading this, please get in contact with me!

- Coming Out Day was discussed.... final ideas as far who was speaking and what about were discussed. The idea of having a petition circulating was tossed around.

So, as far as I can remember, that's what we talked about.

Liz, your chipper president/pretend secretary
