Meeting Minutes

Minutes: 08/28/02

Minutes by Tim Reinhart

~Meeting began at 6:10pm in 362 Student Union~

-We had a bunch of new faces today, so we began our meeting by briefly introducing ourselves.
-Stated the basic purpose of the LGBTA at UB (Events, etc.) and stressed the fact that we are an active group. This year esepcially, however, we would like to become even more active than we have been in the past, and there are some ideas in the working to accomplish this.
-The times/dates and some other basic factors for our major programs (Coming out support group, Gender Roles and Sexuality Program, etc) have not yet been set, but are being worked on. -We need a secretary, SISH coucil representative, gardener, and about three people or so for an advertisement committee. All interested individuals should make their interest known to an E-board member (Make sure they get your name!) as soon as possible.
-This year, we will become more democratic in the way we reach decisions and in how we organize activities for the club. Members will be able to suggest and vote for many different things, such that everyone has a chance to make a difference in the club, orchestrate different activities, and otherwise help keep us strong as a club. We hope to eliminate regrets of things not done by incorporating this system.
-On a related note, we will have something along the lines of a "Member of the month/semester" award based on participation and work within the club.
-Since at least two our of our three E-board members have a conflict with our meeting time from the last two semesters, we're looking to change the time and day to whatever is most convenient for everyone in the club. Please let an E-board member know roughly what time would be easy for you.
-We'd like to announce a bit early that we're looking for more people to perform at our amateur drag show during coming out week (around October this year). Anyone can and is encouraged to perform. Keep your eyes open for sign up sheets in the office as we get closer to the actual date.
-Shortly before coming out week starts, we have some time reserved for the display case in the Student Union and are looking for ideas.
-Within the next month or so, Cory would like to organize a tour of some kind of the Buffalo area both on foot and by van.
-On Tuesday, September 3rd (Next week), lesbian musical artist "Ellis" will be performing at Spot Coffee at the corner of Delaware and Chippewa in Buffalo. Attendance is free, and more information may become available soon via listserve.
-As a reminder, since we are are an Student Association club, we need to fulfill fundraising and community service requirements each semester. In the past, this has not been too much of a problem, but we would like to hear ideas from you to possibly make the job less of work and more of an group event.
-On November 4th and 8th, the SISH coucil expo will take place: We need to prepare some kind of activity for it (setting up a table at the very least), and we're looking for ideas.
-The SA club Penny Wars is coming lateri n the year, but since it is somewhat of a slow process, we can get an early start on our collection. Everyone is encouraged to bring in any loose pennies they might have lying around and deposit them in the blue water cooler jug in the office. Please put in pennies only, however, since points are actually deducted for other kinds of change.
-Cory would like to have a kind of monthy poster theme in the office along the walls, and is looking for suggestions. This will probably start in September.

~Meeting ended at 6:48pm in 362 Student Union~
