Membership Eligibility

I am interested. How can I become a member of Golden Key?

Joining Golden Key at the University at Buffalo is a simple process with many benefits. Every year the top 15% of the university's upperclassmen are eligible to apply. This means that a student is required to have at least 15 credits of academic work at UB, have junior or senior status (a minimum of 60 accumulated academic credits), and an eligible GPA. This year the standard is a 3.56 GPA or higher. Once students have been selected and approved (invitations are sent through mail), they just need to fill out their applications and mail it back to Headquarters with a one-time $70 lifetime membership fee. After the applications have been processed, members will be added to the list-serv, where they will be updated regularly of announcements and activities that the local chapter is currently engaged in. Members will then have an opportunity to experience all the benefits of being a part of Golden Key.

The deadline to join has passed. Can I still join?

Yes, you may join even after the deadline by mailing in your application with the required fee. Check also to see if there is a late fee stated on the application. If so, add that to the membership fee for the total amount. The disadvantage of joining late is that you will miss the Induction Ceremony and the chance to have your certificate formally presented to you, but you will still enjoy all the other benefits of becoming a member. Your certificate will be mailed to you instead. If you do not wish to join late, you can wait till next year's selection process to see if you still qualify to join for the following year.

I did not receive a letter of invitation. How do I know if I am eligible?

Please contact the Golden Key advisor, Dr. Brian Waldrop, by either e-mailing him at bwaldrop@buffalo.edu or stopping by the office at 275 Park Hall. Ask to have your transcript verified for eligibility. If you are eligible, you can request an application.

I was invited, but I lost my application. How can I join?

Please visit the Golden Key office in 275 Park Hall and request another application. Be sure to indicate that you already received one and are eligible, but require another invitation. Provide your full name, student number, and your current mailing address to facilitate the process.

I missed the Induction Ceremony. How can I receive my Certificate of Membership?

Simply stop by the Golden Key office at 275 Park Hall during operating hours and ask for your certificate.

I never received my Certificate of Membership and it is not at the Golden Key office. What should I do?

Contact Headquarters at (800) 377-2401 or memberservices@goldenkey.org to request a duplicate certificate.

Since I joined Golden Key, I haven't heard anything. How can I stay informed?

First, make sure you are properly registered with Golden Key by regularly updating your membership profile at https://www.goldenkey.org/GKweb/MembersOnly/. Providing your most current mailing address, e-mail, and other contact information will ensure that Golden Key has a way to send you newsletters, scholarship notifications, and corporate opportunities.

If you have not been added to the University at Buffalo Chapter Listserv, you may add yourself at the Listserv web site by typing GOLDENKEY-LIST (the name of the list) in the box.
