University at Buffalo Boxing
The
University at Buffalo Boxing Club is made up of members with a full
range of experience. We have people joining constantly with
little or no experience, and we also have veteran members who gained
some experience outside of UB. Our largest population however
are students who have worked their way through the ranks training in our boxing program alone.
Beginners that have never boxed before are always
welcome to join. If you fall into this category, then come to a
Sunday practice at 2:00 PM. For those that are already in the
club and are looking to improve their skills and stamina,
conditioning courses are held every Monday and Wednesday nights from
7-8 PM and from 8-9PM.
UB Boxing is for people who want to be part of the
fastest growing club on campus with the potential to be recognized on a National level. The Club is for anyone and everyone
who loves boxing and has the desire to work hard and succeed.
Outstanding UB Boxing Achievements:
On December 17th, 2005 UB Boxer, Wendy Casey
convincingly won a local bout at the Ismalia Temple.
Unfortunately, she was defeated at the Regional Championships.
The bout was a split-decision, with Wendy losing by just a few
punches in the punch count.
The 2004-2005 academic year was a great one for the
University at Buffalo Boxing. Bob Nwachukwu defeated a boxer from
the Navy at a tournament in Virginia. At that particular competition
there were 3 National Runner Ups and 1 National Champion, yet Bob
was awarded "Most Outstanding Fighter of the Evening."
Later in the year, three members competed in Amateur Bouts in Hamburg, NY
with two coming up victorious including a 12-second Knock Out
by Bobby Nwachukwu..
Neither victorious fighter needed the full three rounds to defeat their
opponent. These two also put up a great showing in the 2005 Golden
Gloves Tournament, both claiming runner-up awards. |
