The
physician shadowing program provides an unparalleled opportunity
for undergraduate students to spend a day (or night) with a Buffalo-area
physician. While volunteering is a valuable experience,
and highly regarded by admissions committees, shadowing provides
students with a one-on-one interaction with physicians in a
clinical setting.
Sign me up! See below for instructions.
Once you
have submitted the shadowing forms online, you can expect to receive an
assignment from the shadowing coordinators. If you cannot
or choose not to accept the assignment, it is your
responsibility to notify the shadowing coordinators promptly
so that another student can be assigned.
Complete the shadowing forms
and click 'submit' at the end of the forms. The forms include:
(1) a shadowing
application
(2) a semester schedule
(3) a statement of
understanding
All three forms must be
completed for an application to be considered.
(Note
that this must be done every semester since student schedules change.
Note also that by agreeing to abide by the program guidelines, students
are assuming responsibility for their actions.)
Check your e-mail regularly for a shadowing assignment. You must respond
promptly or risk losing your place.
Shadowing assignments are complete once students submit
a shadowing evaluation form
online. Certification of participation in the APMS
shadowing program will be given to students who submit an online
evaluation.
Maps of
the locations for the various shadowing opportunities can be found on
the LINKS page under "Volunteer / Shadowing
Sites."
