Fraternity's Crest.

Introduction

Lambda Alpha Upsilon Fraternity, Inc. was founded with certain princples and purposes in mind. These ideologies and principles can be combined to express one idea and belief. This belief is that the time has come for the Latino community, as a people, to reach its potential and become an integral part of society. Latinos have been and will be an influence around the world, and in the United States of America the Latino community will be the largest ethnic community by the year 2000. Be aware, though, that in order for us to accept this challenge we must be prepared. We the borthers of Lambda Alpha Upsilon Fraternity, Inc. are working hard as the architects and builders of the foundation of the future. Through our growth as a people, we Latinos must not forget our heritage and culture, because these are the roots which form the common bond between us. As Latinos, we have been making our mark in the history books of life and we must now pave the path and prepare the torch for the next generation to carry on. We must be deeply rooted in the highest ideals and morals, so that our light can shine throughout the world.

History

Lambda Alpha Upsilon Fraternity, Inc. was founded in 1985 by sixteen Latin brothers at the State University of New York at Buffalo with several goals in mind. These goals are:
  1. To unite the Latino community.
  2. To provide a strong and solid base for Latino culture.
  3. To support each other personally and academically.
  4. To establish a network of professionals.
  5. To expand our brotherhood to an international level.
  6. To insure that the number of Latinos in education is ever increasing.
  7. To enrich our environment with Latino pride and spirit.

In the community as well, we the brothers take an important role. Some of the community activities or events in which the brotherhood has participated in are as follow:

We not only have brothers at the university, but we also have alumni in the working field. Among them are engineers, counselors, teachers, architects, statisticians, doctors, lawyers, and business management professionals at all levels. We have an open relationship with them, with the end goal of increasing the number of professionals in the working field.
