GSEU is a division of CWA 1104. The GSEU is the collective bargaining unit for Teaching Assistants and Graduate Assistants employed by SUNY and paid by the State of New York. Its officers negotiate and enforce the contract with the state of New York, protect the rights of GAs and TAs, and work toward creating better working conditions for graduate students.
If you would like to volunteer to be a GSEU mobilizer, please contact the SUNY Buffalo Chief Steward. Remember: GSEU's effectiveness comes from member involvement. Please attend GSEU meetings and gatherings and talk about labor issues with your co-workers.
All TAs and GAs employed by SUNY are part of the GSEU bargaining unit and pay the union a percentage of their income. However, to obtain full union benefits you must fill out a yellow membership form and return it to a union officer (your department rep, Chief Steward, or Business Agent, or mail it to the address on the form. These forms are distributed at health orientations, GSEU meetings, and general orientation activities.
To contact the Business Agent about employment problems or questions, email Mia Jorgensen at gesu-business@buffalo.edu. Contact Chris Buchanan at gseu-steward@buffalo.edu to get a union card to sign or to volunteer to represent your department. Any other general inquiries should be directed to gseu-reps@buffalo.edu.
