Summary of Research Interests:

My major research and writing have been in the areas of social conflict, negotiation, and mediation. Earlier I did a long series of experiments on the antecedents of integrative agreements in negotiation (see Pruitt & Carnevale, 1993). I also did two large field studies of community mediation, the results of which are summarized in Pruitt (1995). My most recently completed research consists of a series of experiments on escalation in response to persistent annoyance (see Mikolic, Parker, & Pruitt, 1997). I am co-author of a popular textbook on social conflict (Rubin, Pruitt, & Kim, 1994). I have also just completed a chapter on "Social Conflict" for the forthcoming fourth edition of the Handbook of Social Psychology (Pruitt, 1998) and an article on the Oslo negotiations that led to establishment of the Palestinian Authority (Pruitt, 1997). I am continuing to work on historical peace processes.
