  • are unsure of an area of specialization
  • need to strengthen their credentials to apply to doctoral programs
• wish to gain professional development - for instance:
  • high school teacher professional development
  • guidance counsellor professional development
  • economic analysts seeking insight into human behavior
• wish to earn an advanced degree above a Bachelor's Degree
  • Jobs for Master's Graduates

What the Master's program is not:

• backdoor entry to doctoral program admission
  • admission to the M. A. program is separate from our doctoral program
  • current M. A. students compete with other applicants for entry to our doctoral programs
• a professional training program
  • in the State of New York a doctoral degree is required to enter the profession
  • applicants desiring professional certification should apply to our doctoral program

Is there funding available?

Funding for the Master's Program is limited, but may be available:

• University at Buffalo Graduate School Financial Aid
• funding from a sponsoring faculty person's research grant
• some Master's students secure funding upon arrival, through university-affiliated employment
• the Schomberg Minority Fellowship Program does fund exceptional Master's students
  • if you qualify be sure to indicate your minority status on the application form
