The Department of Surgery is a large department with a significant
commitment to patient care, research, and undergraduate and graduate medical education.
We are dedicated to the improvement of the health of our patients and to the professional
development of our students and residents. We serve a community of 1.3 million in Western New York.
The School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the hospitals affiliated with it
have developed the Graduate Medical Dental Education Consortium of Buffalo. For medical
students, we offer a junior clerkship and many senior electives in the Consortium hospitals.
The Department and Consortium offer a residencies in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery,
and Fellowships in Colon-Rectal Surgery and Vascular Surgery. There are more than 120 faculty
and 70 residents and fellows enrolled in the commitment to medical education.
