In an attempt to address the health care needs of uninsured citizens, students at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine have established the Lighthouse Free Medical Clinic. This student-run clinic provides uninsured individuals with free health care screenings in conjunction with Dr. Chester Fox, Clinical Associate Professor at the university at Buffalo, Department of Family Medicine.  The Lighthouse Free Medical clinic provides a valuable service to the community both by offering treatment for self-limited illnesses and by linking the community to medical and social service systems such as insurance screening. In addition, the clinic contributes to the training of UB medical students by giving them clinical experience and broadening their horizons to include the needs of the underserved.
