State University of New York at Buffalo

September 29, 2007
Kenneth A. Krackow, M.D. is awarded the Kaleida Health Spirit Award at the ninth annual Kaleida Ball, held at the Buffalo Convention Center.

“You came into this world to be a healer.”
These words from a former patient of Kenneth Krackow, M.D., epitomize the impact he has made on the people who have trusted him to improve their lives through orthopaedic surgery.
Another patient says, “Your expertise as an orthopaedic surgeon has made it possible for me, and many others, to achieve a higher quality of life that otherwise would have been impossible.”
As chief of orthopaedics at Buffalo General Hospital and a professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Dr. Krackow changes lives.

Innovator. Leader. Teacher.
Each defines the type of physician he has become. Dr. Krackow and his team pioneered the development of technology for computer-assisted total knee replacement surgery to assist the orthopedic surgeon with properly aligning implants for greater accuracy and control. He was instrumental in the renovations made to a new orthopaedic unit at Buffalo General Hospital, ensuring the safest environment and state-of-the-art care. Above all, he is dedicated to sharing his knowledge with the next generation of up-and-coming orthopaedic surgeons.
Dr. Krackow earned his medical degree at Duke University, where he simultaneously completed an advanced degree in Mathematics. He has been extensively published in multiple peer-reviewed publications, invited to speak at national and international conferences and authored or contributed to more than twenty five textbook chapters.
Although his passion for orthopaedics and his patients is obvious, Dr. Krackow is also an avid student of history, philosophy and science. And he’s not shy about sharing his interest, as this patient can attest to: “I want to express how special I feel after leaving your office, the way you take the time to talk with me about my recovery and our discussions about government, politics, economics and philosophy.”
We are truly privileged to honor Dr. Krackow with the Kaleida Health Spirit Award.
