New Orthopaedic Suite Opens at Buffalo General Hospital |
Unprecedented luxury in a hospital setting for Western New York unveiled
Buffalo General unveiled its new orthopaedic floor to add an element of patient and family-focused hospitality to the hospital’s orthopaedic program at a special Open House on Monday, July 9.
The orthopaedic program at Buffalo General Hospital is led by nationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon Kenneth Krackow, M.D. “Our team of orthopaedic surgeons represent some of the finest orthopaedic specialists in the world and provide first class care in their subspecialty areas,” said Krackow. “With the addition of the newly renovated orthopaedic floor at Buffalo General, patients can feel confident that they are receiving superlative care that is on par – if not better – than such facilities as Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins.”
More than $350,000 has been invested into the project to create unprecedented luxury in a hospital setting for Western New York, with 28 private rooms and 7 semi-private rooms. New furniture, including rooms with sofas that convert into beds for family members who stay overnight; softer lighting, and new floors with a hard-wood look are all focused on improving the patient experience.
"We are continuously focused on the needs of patients – it is a priority,” said Buffalo General President Michael Nagowski. "The goal of the new orthopaedic floor is to significantly improve comfort for those who come to us for orthopaedic care and take us another step closer toward being formally recognized as an Orthopaedic Center of Excellence. By creating a beautiful, private environment, we hope to help ease some of the stress patients feel about being in the hospital to promote healing during recovery."
The patient experience begins before patients are actually admitted to the hospital. Pre-operative education classes are taught on the floor in new teaching suites, and an escorted tour of the facility is provided to familiarize patients and their families with the environment to ease uncertainty that often comes with being in a hospital.
After surgery, physical and occupational therapy are performed in the privacy of patient rooms. Bedside care is delivered by nurses who are specially trained in orthopaedics, and nursing documentation stations are positioned outside of each patient room to allow nurses to be more readily available when needed.
"The opening of the new orthopaedic floor at Buffalo General is another example of our commitment to improve the overall experience of our patients while they are in a Kaleida Health facility," said Kaleida Health President James R. Kaskie. “As a key partner of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, we believe quality health care is the right of every individual, and that includes being comfortable in your surroundings while being treated in the hospital.”
