Dr. Philip L. Glick

Dr. Glick is a Professor of Surgery, Pediatrics, and OB/GYN at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkley, and graduated with a M.D. degree from the University of California, San Francisco. His surgical post-graduate training was at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a research fellowship in fetal surgery at UCSF under the supervision of Michael R. Harrison, M.D. His pediatric surgery residency was at the Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He is board certified in General Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. His clinical interests include neonatal surgery, fetal surgery, surgical oncology, pediatric trauma, and chest wall deformities. His research interests are concentrated in the pathophysiology of congenital diaphragmatic hernias and the development of the fetal lung. Dr. Glick is the Surgeon-in-Chief for the Children's Hospital of Buffalo and the Director of the Buffalo Institute of Fetal Therapy (BIFT). Dr. Glick is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Pediatric Surgical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Society for University Surgeons, American Thoracic Society, Society of Pediatric Research, Association for Academic Surgery and many others. He has been at Children's Hospital of Buffalo since 1989.

Dr. Hollands is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York and the Clinical Director of the miniature Access Surgery Center and the Miniature Access Surgery Teaching, Training and Robotic Research Center.   Dr. Hollands completed her undergraduate education and obtained her M.D. at University of South Alabama College of Medicine.  Her general surgery training was done at The Graduate Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania where she served as Administrative Chief Resident and her pediatric surgery residency was done at Miami Children’s Hospital where she served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Hollands is board certified in General Surgery.  Her clinical interests include neonatal surgery, thoracic surgery, pediatric laparoscopy and thoraoscopy and pediatric trauma.  Her research interests include robotics and new technologies in surgery.  Dr. Hollands is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, International Pediatric Endosurgery Group, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and many others.  Dr. Hollands joined The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in 2002.  Prior to that, she was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Louisiana State University. 

Dr. Michael G. Caty

Dr. Caty is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his undergraduate education at Boston College and obtained his M.D. degree at the University of Massachusetts. His general surgery training was done at the University of Michigan. During his general surgery residency, he did a research fellowship investigating intestinal injury during ischemia and reperfusion. His pediatric surgery residency was done at the Children's Hospital of Boston and Harvard Medical School. He is board certified in Pediatric and General Surgery. His clinical interests include neonatal surgery, thoracic surgery, intestinal motility disorders, pediatric renal transplantation, pediatric surgical oncology, and pediatric laproscopy and thoracoscopy. His research interests are concentrated on the pathophysiology of intestinal ischemia and reperfusion. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Pediatric Surgical Association, Surgical Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Shock Society, Association for Academic Surgery and British Association of Pediatric Surgeons. He has been at Children's Hospital of Buffalo since 1995.

Dr. Guy F. Brisseau

Dr. Brisseau is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the State University of New York at Buffalo. His undergraduate and medical school was completed at Dalhousie University in Canada. After completing a rotating internship at the University of Western Ontario he moved on to the University of Toronto Gallie program in General Surgery. During his General Surgery training, Dr. Brisseau carried on research investigating the pathophysiology of surgical infections and the host response in critically ill patients. Pediatric Surgical training followed at the Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Brisseau is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a board certified surgeon in both Canada and the United States. His clinical interests include neonatal surgery, pediatric miniature access surgery, pediatric surgical oncology, surgical ultrasound and pediatric trauma for which he is the Director of the Trauma Program at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo. His research interests include assessment of pediatric trauma prevention interventions, and pediatric surgical ultrasound. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Trauma Society, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group. He has been at Children's Hospital of Buffalo since 2000.

Karen Iacono
MSN, PNP

Karen Iacono is our Nurse Practitioner. She received her Associates degree in Nursing from Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she later worked as an Intensive Care Registered Nurse prior to continuing her undergraduate education at Russell Sage College. While attending undergraduate school at Russell Sage she worked as a pediatric nurse at the Albany Medical Center Children's Hospital. Following completion of her undergraduate education, Karen attended the State University of New York at Buffalo where she received her Master's degree in nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Since the completion of her education, Karen has worked at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo in the specialty area of Pediatric Surgery. Her clinical interests include enterostomal therapy, PICC lines, bowel management, congenital anomalies associated with the gastrointestinal system, gastrostomy care, burn and wound management as well as patient/family education.
