Overview
The Division of Medical Oncology at the University
of New York at Buffalo and the Department
of Medicine at Roswell Park Cancer Institute,
the nation's first cancer center are closely aligned
faculties. Roswell Park is a National Cancer Institute-designated
comprehensive cancer center, having held that
designation continuously since 1973.
Roswell Park offers a broad and deep array of
clinical and basic science programs. Clinical
activities at Roswell Park take place in the 100-bed
dedicated cancer hospital and ambulatory center.
Cutting edge clinical care and clinical research
programs serve over 8,000 new cancer patients
seen each year at Roswell Park. The mission of
the Division/Department is to provide the finest
in patient care for all cancer patients, and to
provide an outstanding educational and research
opportunity for the 12 fellows trained in each
of three years in our program.
The Department consists of faculty with national
and international recognition in the care and
study of
- acute leukemia
- lung cancer
- upper and lower GI cancer
- biologic therapies
- prostate and GU cancer
- breast cancer
- melanoma
Faculty members are funded by the National Cancer
Institute, Department of Defense, American Cancer
Society, National Comprehensive Cancer Center
Network as well as numerous foundations. The goal
of the Medicine faculty is to integrate the very
latest in cancer research findings into the best
patient care possible. Discovery of new knowledge
and its application to help our patients is our
goal and we are committed to the training of fellows
and residents in these principles.
