Patient Care
The full-time faculty in the UB|MD Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (UB|MD-GI) as a group provide comprehensive in- and outpatient services at four major University-affiliated (core) hospitals:
- The Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) is a 550-bed community and secondary and tertiary referral hospital.
- The Buffalo Veterans Administration Medical Center (VA) is a 400-bed acute care hospital.
- The Buffalo General Hospital is a 501-bed acute care hospital and tertiary referral hospital.
- The Roswell Park Cancer Institute is a 133-bed comprehensive cancer care center.
All faculty members of UB/MD-GI are board certified in the subspecialty of gastroenterology and all are on staff at the four core hospitals. They operate a unified call schedule, such that one attending is on-call at the hospitals at night and the weekend. The attending on call can always be contacted through the switchboard at any of the hospitals.
GI at each core hospital provides the full range of cognitive, diagnostic, and therapeutic endoscopic services for diseases within the subspecialty of gastroenterology; including those of the liver, biliary tract and pancreas. In addition, the faculty sees patients and performs some procedures at the UB/MD offices at Dent Tower.
