The UB Department of Family Medicine is a University administered, community based department. Our multidisciplinary faculty teach, provide health care, and conduct research in academic and health care settings throughout Western New York.

Dr. Rosenthal
Thomas Rosenthal, MD.
Chair, UB Family Medicine

Our Family Medicine Residency Program, one of the first such programs in America, continues its tradition of excellent training at five outpatient clinical centers in Western New York and UB's consortium of regional health centers. We graduate 16 Family Physicians each year, with many choosing to remain in the Western New York community. Seven U.S. Family Medicine Chairs have come from our UB department. We have an active role in the education of Medical Students at the UB School of Medicine, including a Third Year Clerkship in Family Medicine.

We also have an extensive research infrastructure with many funded primary care research endeavors. We are ranked 4th at UB in external funding, and ranked 4th in US for Family Medicine research authorship.

We place our patients and our community above all else while creating an environment that enriches both faculty and trainees. Our department's family physician faculty staff eight outpatient primary care sites around Western New York, seeing over 100,000 patient visits per year. The patients seen in our outpatient training practices include men, women and children across the entire age spectrum. The adult women are followed for gynecologic care, prenatal care, and delivering their babies. We deliver over 600 babies per year.

We are proud of our success and look forward to serving you as a trainee or as a patient. We welcome any feedback regarding the contents and usefulness of our web site.
