Post-Baccalaureate Program
The Associated Medical Schools of New York (AMS), in conjunction with the division of Undergraduate Academic Services at the State University of New York at Buffalo, has developed a Post-Baccalaureate Program. The goal of the program is to increase the enrollment of qualified educationally or economically disadvantaged students graduating from medical schools in the state of New York.
The program is designed to assist students in strengthening academic preparedness and to insure successful medical school matriculation. This includes preparation for the Medical College Admission Test.
The program embodies a thorough analysis of principal areas of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and instruction in organizational and study skills. The program provides students an opportunity to demonstrate their capacity to perform in an intensive academic environment. Early exposure to the medical school curriculum is provided during a pre-matriculation summer program.
Studies have shown that applicants who were unsuccessful in gaining admission to medical school on their initial attempt were most often not admitted because of inadequate academic preparation. Diagnostic testing is useful in the development of a curriculum that is tailored to individual needs. Students participate in a four week Summer Enrichment program in Mathematics and Science. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, the students will receive an official letter of acceptance to the medical school that first recommended them.
