UB's School of Medicine has a strong commitment to increasing the number of physicians from diverse backgrounds and the number of physicians who have demonstrated a vision and commitment to improving the health status of diverse patient populations via patient care, research and/or teaching.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs guides our efforts to recruit students from diverse backgrounds and administers programs designed to expand the pool of students who will consider pursuing careers in medicine. The office of Multicultural Affairs of the SMBS is also fully committed to the retention of matriculated students from traditionally underrepresented groups.
To accomplish this, we offers many programs and services for our students including:
- NHBLI Summer Research Fellowship Program
- Post-baccalaureate program
- New York State Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP)
- tutorial services,
- personal guidance,
- financial and career counseling
