Archive Course

The Archive Course feature is one way to back up your course.  Archive Course creates a .zip file package that can be imported for use at another time or on another Blackboard course management system.

Archive Course creates a permanent record of an entire course including all the content and user interactions (e.g., grades, discussion board postings, assignment submissions).   Archived courses are saved as .zip files. Archiving a course does not remove it from the system.

Note: Archive packages are downloaded as compressed .zip files and are imported in the same format. Do not modify or remove files from a zipped Archive package, or it will not import correctly.

Archiving Your Course

  1. Log into the course you want to Archive.
  2. Select Control Panel > Archive Course (under Course Options).
  3. Click Archive on the Export / Archive Manager page.
  4. Click Submit. You will receive a message that an email will be sent when the action is completed. (No email will be sent. There is a bug in the system. Check back later to see if the file has processed.)
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click OK.  This returns you to the Control Panel.
  7. Select Archive Course (under Course Options).
  8. Click the file name (archive file names begin with ArchiveFile...).
  9. You will be asked to Open or Save the file; Click Save.
  10. Select the location where you want to save this archived file (e.g., local computer, networked drive, CD).
  11. Click Save.
  12. After the file has been saved to your local computer, select the Remove button to remove the file from the Export/Archive Manager.

Note: This file can be imported into a new course site, using Import Package.
