ICQs

Internal Control Questionnaire (ICQ)

An ICQ is a series of yes or no questions about internal control structures. A yes answer indicates that a needed control or policy is in place. A no answer indicates a control may be needed and should be looked at.

We use an ICQ in many audits. These questionnaires are designed specifically for the area being audited. You may find the following ICQ's useful for evaluating controls in your area. Keep in mind that the questionnaires are not a complete list of controls that are needed to minimize risk and some questions may not pertain to your unit.

  • Decentralization - The University has decentralized many of the financial and administrative responsibilities to the units. The purpose of this ICQ is to help evaluate an awareness of University policies and internal control practices and to identify areas where compliance and control may need to be improved.

  • For more information on decentralized responsibilities, we've included a list of University procedures that can be found online.
