>>Dr. Gretchen Sechrist
UPA: Where were you
born and raised?
Dr. Sechrist: I am from Williamsport, Pennsylvania; home of the
Little League World Series. My Parents still live there, so I go back and
visit a lot.
UPA: What school did you attend as an undergrad?
Dr. Sechrist: I went to Bucknell University; it’s a small
liberal arts school in Pennsylvania.
UPA: And where did you continue graduate work?
Dr. Sechrist: I got into a doctoral program at the University
of Maryland, and then did a post-doc at Penn State.
UPA: And what were your main areas of focus?
Dr. Sechrist: My main areas of focus right now are in
stereotypes to prejudice and discrimination. So I look at how stereotypes
develop and change, what causes people to stereotype other people; I also
do research on how it feels to be stereotyped, what are the consequences of
experiencing discrimination, which is all in the social psychology field.
