we are setting up in order to help fellow students in BIO courses. Anyone in the club is welcome to participate
as either a tutor or student.

and BIO319. Please contact Ben

if you are interested in participating!

The UBARSP is a program we are trying to implement that will allow students
to shadow research faculty, much like how one would shadow a
physician. As you are aware, UB
is a well known for its research achievements. It is therefore important that we,
as students, take advantage of this strength. We do have Undergraduate Research
opportunities, however this program will provide a stepping stone for
students interested in research.
This is the premise:
1.
We provide a list of professors who study different facets
of Biological Sciences(i.e. molecular, cell, biochemical, etc.)
2.
You tell us who you would like to shadow.
3.
We set up a time and place to go visit a lab for a few hours
for a few days.
a.
You won’t do any experiments but you will watch the
professor or his/her post-docs, Ph.D students, etc. do their
experiments. You’ll see
the difference between doing benchwork in regular class labs vs. doing
benchwork in a real lab.
Hopefully you’ll be able to go a few days in a row in order to
see how experiments can take hours up to a few days in order to complete.
4.
That’s it! It’s not a semester long obligation
and if you like it, you might consider working there for credit or
money.
Because this is a
program is still in the development stages, we do not know when it will
begin. Please keep track of your e-mails and come to our meetings to find
out updates on the information.
