The Mighty Moose River 2008

This year several brave members of the club decided that it was time to try the Moose River. After four consecutive years on the New River in West Virginia, things were ripe for a change. The guides at the Black River had been telling us to raft the Moose since we started rafting with them telling us it was a "Slam-dance with mother nature"....They were right.

The river was 7'2" going to 7'6" during the afternoon, it is unrunable at 8'. A true class 5 in all its glory, everyone had a great time and everyone got to swim (at least) once on the beautiful 80 degree day. According to Mike Dugan, head guide of the Hudson River Rafting Company, it was one of the best 5 days of Moose River Rafting History. We were there to see it. Click on the pictures for links to the videos (Courtesy of Split Rock Video).

Tannery: Pat swims the majority of the second and biggest class 5 of the day on this one, by far the most intense run of the day. When you see Pat swimming that is video of the second raft running the rapid.

Froth Hole: The second boat takes a big hit in Fronth Hole.

Mixmaster: Takes some swimmers, Alex never quite reaches the top.

Elevator: Both boats swim at the final major rapid of the day.
