Backpacking Minister Creek in Alleghany

After a longer than theorized car ride we arrived at Minister Creek Campground and trail system Friday night. After finding a suitable campsite in the dark we set up camp and started a fire next to minister creek. Saturday was spent leisurely hiking about 4 miles to Triple Forks Camp located at the junction of Minister Creek and North Country Trails. On the way we stopped frequently to explore the multiple “rock cities” along the trail. We bouldered a little bit and climbed a few very large rocks. Triple Forks camp was really something; it had a fire ring with stone chairs built. We spend the night there and gathered enough wood for a nice fire. Before Dinner on Saturday we found an actual cave [named Goodman's cave after the finder] west of the camp in the middle of a large rock city. This cave was not an easily accessible one; we had to climb up on a small ledge, then down a narrow split in the rocks, and then squeeze through a small hole. The cave was big enough for us all to fit in; in fact there was some room to spare. This may have been the first time any one found the cave due to the location of the cave entrance and the distance of the rock city from the nearest trail. On Sunday we found a few more nice rock cities and some larger but well traveled cave/ openings in the rocks. Overall, we found hiking Minister Creek very easy and fast if one does not stop to explore frequently.
