Minutes: 3/17/99
As told by the ever happy LGBA Secretary, Liz. - A couple weeks ago, we were contacted by a woman from Union college requesting that lesbians/bi women 19 or older who have been out to their parents for at least 6 months fill out a survey to help in her study. Those surveys have come in. Look on top of Jill's mailbox to fill one out. Please return it to the envelope when you are finished. - We missed the sale of buttons by one company, but on Jill's Seattle excusrsion, she found a cool store with better buttons, who in turn gave her the contact info. for where to find them. So, when the conference is all said and done, we will be looking into buying more buttons, etc. - There is a huge policy change - or reinforcing of a pre-existing policy, regarding fliers. YOU MAY ONLY POST ONE FLIER, PREAPPROVED BY SA (has the SA logo on it) TO EACH BULLETIN BOARD! Also, there will no longer be posting of fliers allowed anywhere accept these boards... i.e., not on the walls nor windows. If we violate this policy, we will be charged $5 for each flier! So, if you are going to hang up any fliers for the conference, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE RULES! - We put a table in the hall when we re-arranged... we need to get rid of it because of another enforcing of a pre-existing rule. We're contacting other groups to see if they want it... in fact, I believe this has already been taken care of. - Gaypril (April is Gay Pride Month) We have at least 1 table every week in the Union. Let's try to think of some cool things to have a presence on campus during April! Talk to Jill if you have any ideas... - Sean Sasser, the surviving partner of Pedro Zamora, from Real World 3, will be speaking at UB on April 14th. LGBA will be volunteering, and we are also going to get a block of tickets. If you would like to volunteer, contact Jill so she can let them know! - Monday, March 22nd, the New York State Pride Agenda is having a day in Albany to demonstrate for the Hate Crimes Bill. If you would like to go, I believe a few LGBA members are going, you can take a bus for free, and ceom back late Monday night... There is a bus leaving from Buffalo at 10am. Talk to Lisa or Michele if you're interested... - Tommorrow, March 18th, Sam Hoyt will have "office hours" to chat about the proposed changes in TAP. IF YOU ARE RECEIVING TAP, YOU SHOULD GO! Basically, Patacki was too busy giving himself a pay raise, to realise that students are poor and need TAP to attend school. So, go let Sam Hoyt know that you're not happy about it1 - AIDS Community Services is looking for volunteers for the summer, so if you'll be around, give them a call! - There is free HIV testing at UB, and it is in jeopardy of losing funding because people requesting test has dramatically declined. We need to keep this service at UB, so go get tested! You should get tested every year anyhow! If you are at all sexually active, have had blood transfusions, are an iv drug user, share needles, HAVE HAD A PIERCING, have had a tattoo, or just for piece of mind, GO GET CHECKED! A bunch of people are planning to go this Saturday, actually, SO GO! - The talent showcase may have to be cancelled if people don't sign up, so YOU NEED TO SIGN UP WITH MICHELE ASAP! Like, do this NOW! - If you have taken raffle tickets, YOU MUST RETURN THEM TO LIZ NO LATER THAN 11am MONDAY! If you do not, I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN! The drawing is the next day, and I personally must turn them in to Sub Board at 12pm Monday. If you don't turn yours in, whoever bought a ticket from you will not have a chance to win, and I will personally be responsible for your tickets. I will NOT be a happy camper if I'm not turning in tickets stubs and money from yours! If you think you won't be able to sell your tickets, PLEASE bring them back to the LGBA office, since we are going to sell them in the Union on Friday, all day! If you couldn't sell yours, and you didn't bring them back so we could, again, I will not be happy! - You MUST register for the conference by Friday, March 19th at 5pm. If you're not on the list, you run the risk of not being able to come to some workshops, who may have space limitations. All you have to do is put your name on the list, so do it, damnit. - There are now 80 people from out of town coming to the conference. For any other updates/questions about the conference, please go to http://wings.buffalo.edu/sa/lgba/conference.html A couple things not mentioned at the meeting... - I talked to Dan Renzi on the phone on Tuesday, and he is VERY excited about coming to Buffalo and meeting everyone. He has a great personality, and I'm sure he'll give a great address! He's anticipating a lot of question about the Real World, and he said he'll give us all the dirt, like who slept with who, but it would be nice if we could talk about other things besides the Real World as well! - Special Interst Housing, AKA, "The QueerZoo" needs people to live there next year! If you're planning to continue living on campus next year, definitely sign-up to live there! It's a Safe Space, and they have the nicest suite on the entire campus, seriously. If you would like to live there, or would like to see the QueerZoo, talk to someone who lives there! (for instance, everyone's favorite LGBA president, Jill) - Elections for next year's LGBA officers (yes, it's already that time!) are fast approaching. Start thinking about if you want to run for an office for next year! Check with SA about guidelines to be an officer, and look through the LGBA constitution to see what each officer is responsible for. If you don't like the way things are run, here is your chance to change it next year. That is all.
