Minutes: 2/17/99
Liz was unable to make the meeting wednesday, so I, your friendly neighborhood vice president, decided to play secretary for the day. :)
Here are the minutes, as I wrote them:
1.) Jill talked about attendance- or shall we say lack thereof?- and expressed her unhappiness with it. She looked back at sign-in sheets and noticed that at last semester, we had an average of 18 people at each meeting.. and now we only have like 9 at best? we tried to find suggestions on how to improve attendance. The best one - remind people about meetings. So, here I go: *WEEKLY MEETINGS FOR LGBA WILL BE HELD AT NOON ON WEDNESDAYS* it really is important to come, because we have a lot of stuff coming up: ie., conference, thrift sale, and i think april is national gay/les/bi awareness month. PLEASE GET INVOLVED AND ATTEND MEETINGS. :) thanks. 2.)Tara from the history council came and visited us today. I just read my mail and saw that Jill just posted about the whole thing, so I won't reiterate. Just check out Jill's post. (note from Liz: this will not be posted on the web, please mail Jill for more info.) 3.)If you're interested: **Albany conference, April 16-18, with the main speaker being Ellen Degeneres' mom. correction from Liz: Ellen's mom is actually the speaker of Hartwick's conference, happening March 12-14. if you want to go, please see jill ASAP. she needs to give them a number by march 15. the price is $45 for lodging, food, and conference. $25 for meals and conference. jill wants to go, and wants to get others to come, too. **Wells College Conference NEXT WEEKEND, located in Aurora. but i guess this is their first one, so it may not be so well organized. 4.) A work order is being put in to repair the windows, blinds, and sprinkler. hopefully they will be repaired over summer. 5.) ALBANY WANTS TO CUT TAP MONEY FOR STUDENTS AND RAISE THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF CREDIT HOURS TAKEN FROM 12 TO 15 IN ORDER TO RECEIVE TAP! this is unfair and there will be a protest in Albany on TUESDAY, MARCH 2. (the day of our thrift sale). transportation will be provided to and from this event and it's really important so we can get our voices heard. if you want to go, talk to SA. 6.) The Oasis says we can hang flyers in their building. so we will. :) 7.) Human Services Career Fair is on wednesday, march 3. lots of workshops. 8.) Regarding national freedom to marry day: we got the stickers late, but we did pass out flyers with ribbons in order to promote the cause. jill wants to send a big THANK YOU to community action corps for lending us space on their table. 9.) Tina Cruz (although not there in person, but in spirit) mentioned to Jill about the National Collegiate Pride Association. For our organization to become a member, it costs $75. now, we were going to vote yes and become a member of this organization, but amy (that's me) asked if we could afford it. jill said that we are like $1000 in debt right now, so i suggested that we postpone our membership until we can honestly say we have $75. everyone thought that sounded okay. 10.) Guess how much we made on the penny drive so far? $40!! That's like one drag queen! KEEP BRINGING IN YOUR CHANGE AND DROPPING IT OFF IN THAT BIG BLUE CONTAINER! 11.) Peter mentioned that he saw flyers for several multicultural seminars- one on racism, one on homophobia, and several others. if you're interested, check out the area in clemens, second floor when you just come in from that inside bridge. or, cindy gave me this URL to check out: http://wings.buffalo.edu/gsa/quill/bulletin.html 12.) GLYSS is THIS MONDAY, FEB 22. so far, amy (me) and tina are interested in going. we would have to leave at like 6:00, because we need to meet with elaine at 6:30 or so. we're going to bring games- hopefully those ice-breaker kind of things- and just have a really good time. vanessa stressed the importance of GLYSS. so go! please let amy s. or jill know if you want to go by the end of this week! 13.) THRIFT SALE!! The thrift sale will be held on TUESDAY, MARCH 2 in the student union. collections will take place NEXT WEEK (feb 21-27) and we will be flyering about the event at the end of this week. please donate if you have any used clothes, and if you want some, spend your money at the sale. :)
14.) drag show contracts (for conference) are almost done, with the
exception of Vi. he doesn't want to sign his name victor, so we're
trying to see what will be done about that.
15.) We're starting to sell ads for the program for conference. so far, we got BUFFALO FOOD CO-OP for $40. support them because they are supporting us! thanks. 16.) Movie night tomorrow (FRIDAY) at 5pm in the office. we're going to watch "Jeffrey". please let peter know in advance if you're coming. 17.) Josh's birthday is this weekend- everyone tell him happy birthday! and john hale's brithday is TODAY- so please let's bombard him with happy birthdays (and if you miss him today, belated happy birthdays). 18.) cindy's email address ( in case you have any questions or concerns about GGALA) is camurphy@acsu.buffalo.edu
