Minutes: 11/4/98
As Told by Tina Cruz, secretary
- Tonight a bunch of LGBA members are going down to meet with GLYS and
present a GRASP program... hopefully all goes well in what we're all
hoping is the first of several collaborations with them.
- No Frills was this past Saturday, thanks to all who participated and
attended.
- Escorting this past Saturday at the WomenServices clinic was @ 11:30
instead of 8am to confuse anti-abortion protesters - it worked!
- LGBA received $1000.00 from the powers that be for our conference in
March; this is about a fifth of what we spent last year, so Kim and the
conference committee and some officers are working on finding out if there
are ways for us to somehow get more funding... as of right now, the
conference is still on...
- Members present voted to join The National Collegiate Pride
Association, at a membership fee of $75.00
- SA is establishing a Diversity Awareness Council... anyone interested
in information about this, or in possibly being on this council, contact
Kimberly... someone present suggested that LGBA's participation in this
group might aid our ongoing attempts to be classified as a minority club,
rather than as a special interest organization
- Ways in Being Gay continues @ Hallwalls, stop by the office and check
out or pick up a calendar of events...
- Movie night in the office (362 SU) this Friday the 13th at 8pm...
bring some food, come and hang out
- Charlie Lewis from the Buffalo News reiterated what he said at last
week's meeting about the photo-essay he wants to do about a gay student;
he elaborated a little more about what he's looking for - someone
currently in a gay relationship, someone willing to work with him over the
next couple of months or so, someone who's pretty "active" about their
queer sexuality...? see last week's minutes for info on how to reach him,
or stop by the office and pick up one of his business cards, and ask him
for yourself what exactly it is that he wants if you think you might be
able to help him.
- Our own Tina Barfoot is pictured in the latest issue of Time Magazine
on page 60, escorting a patient into the WomenServices clinic.
